Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli also known as KP Sharma Oli is a Nepalese politician, who served as the Prime Minister of Nepal from 15 July 2024 – 9 September 2025.
On 9 September, 2025, KP Sharma Oli had to resign since he faced massive backlash after the ongoing social media apps ban issue.

Who is KP Oli in Nepal? Nepal Protest News: Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli (KP Sharma Oli) Biography
Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli (KP Sharma Oli) is a Nepali politician who served as the PM of Nepal from July 15, 2024 – September 9, 2025.
Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist – Leninist) since 2014 – he has served as the PM of Nepal on two consecutive occasions. The duration of these two consecutive occasions was from October 2015 to August 2016.
He has been the Member of Parliament for Jhapa 5 since 2017. He has previously served as an MP for Jhapa 6, Jhapa 2, and Jhapa 7.

Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli (KP Sharma Oli) was born on 22 February 1952 in Iwa in Tehrathum. His age is 73 as in 225.

Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli (KP Sharma Oli) was born in Iwa in Tehrathum. His father’s name is Mohan Prasad Oli, who was a Brahmin farmer with limited education.
K.P. Sharma Oli’s mother’s name is Madhumaya Oli – who died from smallpox when he was just four years old.
Sharma Oli’s family then moved to Surungwa, Jhapa back in 1958. However, following floods in the Kankai river – his family left landless before Oli and his family moved in with his grandparents.
K.P. Sharma then migrated to Garamani, Jhapa in 1962.

Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli did his primary education from Pranami Middle School. He has completed his SLC exam from Adarsha Secondary School in 1970. While he was residing in Jhapa, Oli was highly influenced by the anti-Panchayat and Naxalbari movements.

K.P. Sharma Oli is married to Radhika Shakya – whom he met in 1987 at an event, which was organised by CPN (Marxist–Leninist) for recently released political prisoners in Pulchowk Campus. His wife was working as a temporary worker for Nepal Rastra Bank while studying at Patan Campus.
Later that year, K.P. Sharma Oli married in a small ceremony attended by 20 people.
Currently, he resides in the Balkot, Bhaktapur, however, he also has a residence in Damak, Jhapa.
K.P. Sharma Oli – Health Issues
While he was imprisoned, Oli contracted TB aka tuberculosis and he was also suffering from gastric ulcer. When he was released, he was described to be extremely scrawny. Later, after the 1900 revolution, Oli developed kidney problems. He had to undergo kidney transplant in Apollo Hospital, New Delhi in 2007. Moreover, he had another transplant in Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu in 2020. In November 2019, Oli was admitted to intensive care, where he was under dialysis for renal disease.
K.P. Sharma Oli Resignation from the post of Prime Minister of Nepal
On September 9, 2025, K.P. Sharma Oli had to resign from the post of PM of Nepal after the Gen-Z protest by public on the ban of social media apps from Nepal. Facebook, YouTube, X, and Instagram was banned in Nepal, on which the public went on the roads to protest – which turned into violent protests leading to death of many.
On the current situation in Nepal over social media app ban, Oli stated:
The independence of the nation is greater than the loss of jobs of a handful of individuals,” Oli declared. He framed the crackdown not as censorship, but as a fight for sovereignty, dignity, and lawfulness.
The UML is not against social media, but what cannot be accepted is doing business in Nepal, making money, and yet not complying with the law.”

In 1987, KP Sharma Oli was released from prison, Central Committee Member of the then CPN (M-L), in charge of the Lumbini zone.
