Raju Srivastav also popularly known as Gajodhar is an Indian comedian, politician, and actor, who got into the limelight with the Indian talent show, The Great Indian Laughter Challenge. He was the second runner-up in the show and was also a part of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge – Champions, where he was titled ‘The King of Comedy.’ Raju was born on 25 December 1963 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. His zodiac sign is Capricorn.

Parents/Siblings

Raju Srivastav was born in a middle-class family in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. His father’s name is Ramesh Chandra Srivastava, who was a poet and was popularly known as Balai Kaka. Raju’s mother’s name is Saraswati Srivastav. He has one sibling (brother), Dipoo Srivastava. Since his childhood, Raju wanted to become a comedian.

Raju Srivastav is a married man. His wife’s name is Shikha Srivastava. They both have one son, Aayushmaan Srivastava, and one daughter, Antara Srivastava.

Career

Comedian/Actor

Raju Srivastav began his career by appearing in some small roles in Bollywood movies. He was seen in the movie, Maine Pyar Kiya and other flicks such as Bombay to Goa and Baazigar. He was also seen in the movie Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya (2001). 

In 2013, Raju was seen with his wife in a TV dance show called Nach Baliye Season 6, which was aired on StarPlus. Srivastav was also seen in Comedy Nights with Kapil and a show called Mazaak Mazaak Mein aka The Indian Mazaak League, which was aired on Life OK. Raju was seen in the Bollywood movie, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (टॉइलेट – एक प्रेम कथा) in 2017, and in Firangi in the same year. 

Politician

Raju was fielded from Kanpur for the 2014 Lok Sabha election by Samajwadi Party. However, Raju returned the ticket mentioning the low support he was getting from the local units of the party. Srivastava later joined BJP on 19 March 2014. He was also nominated by PM, Narendra Modi to be a part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. It has been since then that Raju has been promoting cleanliness in different cities he visits. He has appeared in several music videos to promote the same agenda after that. He was also seen in TV commercials and social service message video of Swacha Bharat Abhiyaan. 

Latest Update 

In August 2022, Raju was exercising in the Cult gym in Delhi, where he suffered a heart attack. He was referred to AIIMS, where his angioplasty was done. Raju was in ICU. According to media sources, PM Narendra Modi also took an update on his health from his wife on 12 August 2022.

Interesting Facts About Raju Srivastav

1. Raju Srivastav is also known for one of his most famous characters called Gajodhar. He got the inspiration for this role from his barber named Gajodhar, who works in Raju’s Nanihaal. 

2. Srivastav got recognition in Mumbai by mimicking Amitabh Bachchan. 

Death

On 10 August 2022, Raju soon after complaining of chest pain, suffered a heart attack while working out in the gym. He underwent an angioplasty and was on a ventilator since then. During his treatment, doctors noticed swelling in his brain. He was also treated by neurologists. His condition was stated critical since he suffered a heart attack. On 21 September 2022, Raju died during his treatment in Delhi AIIMS.
