Simple Kapadia was an Indian actress who primarily worked in Hindi films and was also an accomplished costume designer. Her acting career spanned between 1987 to 2009.

She was born on 15 August 1958 (age 51 Years; at the time of death) in Mumbai, India.

Her father’s name is Chunibhai Kapadia, and her mother’s name is Bitti, who was known as “Betty.” Her father was a Gujarati businessman. The renowned Indian actress Dimple Kapadia is her sister, and veteran Indian actor Rajesh Khanna was her brother-in-law.

Husband & Children

She was married to Rajinder Singh Shetty. The couple has a son named Karan. Rajinder Singh Shetty, a Sikh Sardar, and Simple Kapadia wed in 1992, but their union was only short-lived. Karan is an actor and assistant director in the Indian film industry and is best known for his roles in the movies Raavan, Raavanan, and Talaash (2012).

Career

Acting

At the age of 18, she made her acting debut in the 1977 movie Anurodh as Sumitha Mathur opposite her brother-in-law, actor Rajesh Khanna. In 1981, she appeared in the films Shakka and Chakravyuha alongside Indian actor Jeetendra. She appeared in Lootmaar, Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai, Jeevan Dhaara, and Dulha Bikta Hai in supporting roles. She co-starred with Shekhar Suman in the 1985 art movie Rehguzar. In 1987, her final acting role was in an item song for Parakh.

Costume Designer

She designed costumes for many Indian actors including Sunny Deol, Tabu, Amrita Singh, Sridevi, and Priyanka Chopra. She received a national award in 1994 for Rudaali’s costumes.

Awards

In 1994, Simple Kapadia earned the National Film Award for Best Costume Design for the Indian film Rudaali.

Death

She received a cancer diagnosis in 2006, yet she went on in her career as a costume designer until her death in 2009. Simple Kapadia died of cancer on 10 November 2009 at the age of 51 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
