Rema Nigerian singer, born on May 1, 2000, in Benin City, Edo, Nigeria, Divine Ikubor is a talented singer and rapper known by his stage name Rema or Remy Boy. 

With a passion for music that developed during his school days, Rema has quickly risen to prominence in the Nigerian music industry. Currently 23 years old, he falls under the zodiac sign of Taurus.

Rema received his education at the Ighile Group of Schools in Edo State. In a heartfelt announcement on Twitter in 2023, he revealed his decision to pursue higher education at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. This move reflects his personal aspirations and fulfills a dream cherished by his late mother.

Rema Nigerian singer comes from an influential background. His father, Justice Ikubor, has been a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State. Along with this, he was also a former General Manager of the state-owned Ethiope Publishing Company. 

Unfortunately, tragedy struck the family when his father was discovered deceased in a hotel room at Bins Hotel in Benin City in 2008.

On the other hand, Rema’s mother is named Hamida Nabbosa.

In 2022, rumors circulated that Temilade Openiyi, a Nigerian singer better known by her stage name Tems, was dating Rema.

He was once more linked to Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, whose stage name is Arya Starr, in 2022. 

Career 

As a “Rap Nation” program member, which taught young people how to rap for the congregation, Rema began his singing career by performing with Alpha P in the Christ of Mercy church. 

The church members gave him a phone when he was only 14 years old, and he used it to download the beats to practice his singing and rapping. 

The Instagram video of himself freestyling to the tune of the song “Gucci Gang” by Afro-pop singer D’Prince went viral in February 2018, impressing D’Prince. D’Prince invited him to Lagos and welcomed him into the Mavin Records clan.

After a year of instruction, Jonzing World signed him as the first artist, making him the inaugural signing under Mavin Records’ first imprint record company. He released his debut EP, “Rema,” in 2019, which quickly became a sensation in Nigeria. Furthermore, his lead single, “Iron Man,” was handpicked.

His song “Dumbei” went viral all over the world that same year. He issued his debut record, Rave & Roses, in 2022.

Ten of his tracks on the album made the US Billboard Afrobeats Chart. He became successful five months after releasing his hit “Calm Down,” which featured a sample from a song by fellow Nigerian musician Crayon called “So Fine.”

In addition, on August 26, 2022, he and Selena Gomez released a remix of their song “Calm Down” that went viral and debuted at number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100.

1. Rema did not receive much backing from his teammates. After US President Barack Obama revealed that it was on his playlist, it experienced tremendous success.

2. Rema never liked to identify as a fan of any certain genre. Rema, on the other hand, declared in May 2021 that he would start referring to his music as “Afrorave,” a type of Afrobeats fused with Arabian and Indian music. 

3. He feels that his music style is somewhere between alternative and afrobeat, but he still wants to experiment with different genres.

3. Pepsi appointed Rema, along with his label partner Arya Starr, as the brand ambassador in September 2021.

4. Rema announced on Instagram that he had purchased a diamond chain for 15 million naira with the remark “15 million nairas.” Yikes!” Fans felt that the singer was merely bragging. Thus they did not take this well.
