Manoj Muntashir Childhood

Manoj Shukla Muntashir was born on Friday, 27 February 1976 in Village Gauriganj, District Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. He was raised in a farming family. His height is approximately 5’8″.

 

 

Education

In 1994, he earned his school education at HAL School Korwa, Amethi. In 1999, Manoj Muntashir graduated from Allahabad University.

Manoj’s Family

His father was a farmer. His mother was a teacher. In one of his media interviews, he stated that his father stopped earning for the family in 1985, and then his mother started working as a teacher in a local school. He remembered that his mother used to spend more than half of her salary on his tuition.

Manoj Muntashir got married to Neelam Muntashir in 1999. Neelam is a writer.

Manoj Muntashir belongs to a Brahmin family. ((DNA)) According to Manoj Muntashir, he writes most of his scripts in Urdu. When he was a child, he learnt Hindu Shalokas. In his childhood, he was fond of reading and writing poetries. He was a lover of Mirza Ghalib’s work “Diwan-e-Ghalib” when he was in middle school. He added the word ‘Muntashir,’ which means ‘Scattered Soul,’ after his surname before shifting to Mumbai.

Soon after completing his education, Manoj Muntashir shifted to Mumbai from Uttar Pradesh for work. Later, he began working in the Indian television industry including writing for Sony TV’s Kaun Banega Crorepati.

The books and poems by Sahir Ludhianvi and Shailendra encouraged Manoj Muntashir to pursue his passion for poetry.

In 1997, Manoj Muntashir started working with All India Radio in Allahabad with a remuneration of Rs. 135.

Bollywood Debut

In 2001, Manoj Muntashir wrote the song “Galliyan” as a Nazm during a Kashmir Tour while sitting by the Dal Lake. Later, Indian musician, Ankit Tiwari heard him reciting the Nazm at Hard Rock Cafe in Mumbai. Later, Ankit and Mohit Suri used this song in the movie “Ek Villain.”

Screenwriting Debut 

With the 2015 movie “Baahubali: The Beginning,” he made his screenwriting debut; he authored the dialogue for the Hindi version of the movie.

204: Listeners’ Choice Award for Best Song for ‘Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga’ from the film ‘Half Girlfriend.’

In 2020, he decided to boycott the award shows after he lost a Filmfare Award for Best Lyrics for his song ‘Teri Mitti’ from the film ‘Kesari’ (2019) to ‘Apna Time Aayega’ from the film ‘Gully Boy’ (2019). He announced his decision via social media.

The dialogue in the movie has drawn criticism for being overly sarcastic or irreverent and for using contemporary terminology in a historical context. The viewers become outraged after hearing the dialogues such as Kapda tere baap ka, tel tere baap ka aur jalegi bhi there, jalegi tere baap ki, teri bua ka bageecha hai kya, and Lanka laga denge… On 18 June 2023, Harnath Singh Yadav, a Rajya Sabha member for the BJP from Uttar Pradesh, linked dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir to Zakir Naik. ((Navbharat Times)) Manoj Muntashir stated on the Adipurush controversy that he will not apologise rather he would change the controversial dialogues in the film.
