Biography

Vijay Varma is an Indian movie actor, who has acted in numerous movies, including Pink (2016), MCA (2017), Gully Boy (2019), and Darlings opposite Alia Bhatt in 2022. He is known for his web series, Mirzapur, which was released in 2020. Vijay was born on 29 March 1986 in Hyderabad, Telangana. He has done post-graduation in acting from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune, India.

Career

Vijay Varma started his acting journey as a theatre artist in his hometown, Hyderabad, India. He acted in different plays before he moved to Pune for almost two years to attain his formal education in acting at FTII. After he completed his post-graduation, he moved to Mumbai for searching work in acting.

He got his first acting job in Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK’s short movie, Shor in 2008, where Vijay played the role of Ramesh in the movie. This short movie won the Best Short Film at the MIAAC festival, New York in the same year. 

Vijay then appeared in the role of a young revolutionary in the period drama, Chittagong, which was shot in 2010 and released in 2012. This movie won two National awards. In 2013, he was seen in the leading role in Monsoon Shootout. This movie was an official selection at Cannes Film Festival 2013. In 2016, Vijay was seen in Pink, which was released on 16 September 2016, where he played the character role of Ankit Malhotra. His acting was highly appreciated by the audience for his portrayal of an abusive and violent person. However, he came into the limelight in 2019 with the movie, Gully Boy.

With this film and his amazing portrayal of the role of a cunning yet empathetic street hustler in the movie, he managed to make it to the list of ‘100 Best Acting Performances of the Decade’ by Film Companion. In 2019, Vijay played the narrator’s part in Super 30. In 2020, he was seen in Baaghi 3. Vijay was seen in Ghost Stories, where he was seen opposite Janhvi Kapoor in the same year.

In 2020, he was seen performing as a psychopath narcotics kingpin in the Netflix series, She.

Vijay was seen in Yaara after that in 2020. And, in 2022, he appeared opposite Alia Bhatt, where he will be seen playing the character role, of Hamza Shaikh.
